Transylvania Fest is actively involved throughout the year in promoting local traditions, folklore and traditional crafts in the pursuit of our mission to honour and respect the history of our region whilst simultaneously implementing solutions for a sustainable future.

Transilvania Fest 2013:

Transilvania Fest Returns to Cluj

Transilvania Fest, an itinerary food and culture festival, returns to Cluj-Napoca, in the historical city’s landmark, Unirii Square, between September 20th and September 20nd 2013. Having reached its eighth edition, Transilvania Fest aims to support local producers in preserving traditional agriculture and also to save and promote the region’s immaterial cultural heritage.

Approximately 100 stands are to be arranged with the occasion of the festival, which will shed a light on the pittoresque of traditional Transilvanian houses. Visitors will also discover the quality and purity of local products and will be able to participate to tasting sessions and cooking demonstrations.

Visitors and guests willenjoy during the festival a range of special sortiments of honey, natural juices, spiced oils, confitures and jams, as well as local cheese, tea and bakery products.

Special film screenings, as well as folkloric concerts presented by local artists are also included in the event’s agenda.

Transilvania Fest 2012:

“Societal” Summer University

“Transilvania Fest” was organised September 19th-23rd under the Responsible Event Label at the “Societal” Summer University in Miercurea Ciuc. Representatives of Transilvania Fest Association, the initiators of the Responsible Event Label, showcased Transilvania Fest; its concept, values and vision, presenting tools and specific information to fellow participants.

Our presentation underlined the heritage and the principles of a secure and healthy working environment. The three workshop sessions focused on the key indicators of social responsibility and sustainable development . Considering these indicators in the context of Transilvania Fest, the importance of authentic culture, the need to respect and protect the cultural heritage, and value of multicultural dialogue were emphasized throughout the event.


Transilvania Fest Association returns to Biertan

Transilvania Fest returned to Biertan, August 15th -19th to join Lună Plină, Horror & Fantasy Film Festival. Organised by the Asociația pentru Promovarea Filmului Românesc and presented by TIFF (Transylvania International Film Festival), the first edition of Lună Plină offered participants the best classic and recent, horror and fantasy productions, showcasing the newest developments in these genres.

During the festival, Transilvania Fest organized a traditional fair promoting Transylvanian traditions and cuisine. Visitors enjoyed a generous display of homemade products, such as traditional cakes, cheese, different types of bread, cold pressed oils, jams and syrups, honey, gingerbread, kurtos kalacs, as well as tea and traditional beverages. As well as food, wicker baskets, beads and traditional stitching, pottery, copper jewelry and fresh lavender were also available on site.

Returning to Biertan allowed us to review the changes in the local producer’s situation and discover new means to further increase our support in keeping food traditions alive in the region and strengthening community identity.

Transilvania Fest 2011:

Transilvania Fest 2011 launched an Architectural Contest in Blaj

Contest period: June 1 to July 30, 2011
Transylvania Fest, together with the Mayor’s office of Blaj and Alba County Council Hall, launches along with Romanian architects an open idea competition for the rehabilitation of Blaj Cultural Palace.

The building was built in the 1930s and was partially destroyed by a fire in the 1990s. Local authorities were to award a 2 Million Euro budget to the winning project for the restoration and conversion of the Palace area to a usable space again.

Transilvania Fest 2011 came to EcoArt Fest Cluj

Date: 6 - 9 May 2011
Location: Cluj-Napoca

Transilvania Fest brings to the organic fair of EcoART Fest certified small producers from Transylvania, which will delight the buyers with natural products such as apple juice, organic syrups, gingerbread and bee products. Alongside the produce, a specialized trainer from Slow Food Cluj Transylvania gave short presentations in healthy eating and lifestyles for children between 5 and 10 years.


Transilvania Fest 2010:

The photo exhibition “Traveler through Transylvania”, Udo Krauss

Udo KraussDate: December 16th 2010-January 31st 2011

Location: Fortuna Galleries, Piata Muzeului (Museum Square), Cluj-Napoca
Udo Krauss is a Saxon, born in Agnita, who migrated during his childhood in West Germany. The art photographer returned to the county out of love for Transylvania and captured through photography of portraits and landscapes the new essence of his birth place. Udo Krauss is an artist discovered by Transilvania Fest on its sixth edition, at Biertan.


Opera in markets

Date: July 16th-17th, 2010
Location: Piaţa Agro Alimentară Complex Leul Cluj Napoca, July 16th, 5 p.m. 

Piaţa Centrală Agro Alimentară in Sibiu July 17th, 5 p.m.
Professional singers of the Romanian Opera House in Cluj-Napoca sustained two recitals of operatic arias in the above mentioned marketplaces. The program included::

  • “O sole Mio”- Italian song
  • “Mio Bambino Caro” from the “Gianni Schicci” opera by G. Puccini
  • “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” from the “Carmen” opera by G. Bizet
  • “Brindisi” from the “Traviata” opera by G. Verdi
  • “Votre Toast” the Toreador song from “Carmen”, by G. Bizet


Festival preview




Date:July 3rd, 2010

Location: The Village Museum, Bucharest

Transilvania Fest presented ‘in a nutshell’ its concept and content at the “Dimitri Gusti” National Village Museum. On the weekend, a museum house from Tilisea, Sibiu county, hosted six artisan producers and craftsmen from the villages of Biertan, Copsa Mare, Richis, Altana and Viscri, which are in the promotion area of the festival. Over 1000 visitors enjoyed Transylvanian treats and delicacies.


The International Tourist Fair

Date: March 18th-21st, 2010
Location: The Parliament Palace, Bucharest
Tourist agencies, hotel partners, airlines, travel health insurance companies, regional tourism promoters, offices and representatives of several states presented their best holiday offers for 2010. Transilvania Fest was present in the tourist packages of Reky Travel agency.
